Hip arthroscopy of 11 joints was performed during the past 2 years. Of these, 8 joints were treated by arthroscopic surgery. The authors used lateral, anterolateral and anterior portal agter distraction of the hip joint on the fracture table.
Arthroscopic procedures included diagnostic arthroscopy, synjovectomy, removal of loose body, biopsy, lavage of the joint and partial excision of the labrum. Short term follow-up was satisfctory in all patients.
Although arthroscopy of the hip was still far from perfection in the sense that the joint space of the hip was narrower and the operative t4echnique was more difficult to perform than in the knee, the authors believed that it could be a valuable
addition to the evaluation and treatment of the hip disorders.
